Role: Software Engineer [Android, iOS, Web] – Media Engineering (All Levels)
Location: LONDON UK (WFH)
Base Salary Range (SF): £127,000 to £297,000
Who We Are:
- We’re Media Engineering at X. If it involves a media feature on X – including video uploading, downloading, playback, live streaming, audio-video calling, audio and video Spaces, images – we build it. Our remit includes
- User experience for media features across Android, iOS, and Web.
- End-to-end media quality and performance.
- Services and client components for media ingest, processing, live streaming, CDN origin, call signaling, webRTC, content protection, APIs for metadata, lifecycle, metrics.
- Handling concurrent audiences of millions.
Who You Are:
We are hiring at all levels, but there are a few candidate archetypes. One is a senior engineer who knows deeply about how to build on [Android, iOS, Web], particularly media APIs and capabilities. Another archetype is a solid generalist [Android, iOS, Web] engineer who is product oriented. This person is an avid user of social media and really cares about media features and what a creator needs. A third archetype has deep experience in end-to-end media quality and performance. They know what all the encoder parameters do and how to make ABR work right. They get the video to start in 200 ms and get the live stream to look good from a Cybertruck driving through Baja.

Qualifications:
- Proven expertise in building on Android, iOS or Web, with a focus on media capabilities.
- Strong understanding of social media and the needs of creators.
- Expertise in end-to-end media quality and performance.
- Acronyms you know all about: H.264, H.265, AV1, MP4, CMAF, VMAF, moq, RTP, RTMP, HLS, HDR, DRM
