DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

  • The Workforce Services Coordinator assists students with defining and clarifying their educational and career goals and resolving issues related to employment. This position focuses on workforce readiness and placement, and works closely with other workforce staff to ensure coordination, seamless advisement, and transition to employment.
  • This grant position will be eligible for participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) after 6 consecutive months of continuous employment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides Career and Technical Education (CTE) career advising, counseling and coaching sessions in person, by telephone, virtually and via email to students/apprentices, instructors and staff
  • Works closely with students/apprentices to identify and refine educational and career goals and provide ongoing advisement to those students

  • Supports, collaborates and coordinates with coaches, mentors, advisors and Communities of Interest (COI)
  • Analyzes student data and matches them to programs offered through community partners
  • Informs students/apprentices of career tools available from the Florida Department of Education and other resources
  • Assists students/apprentices with creating, following, and adjusting their learning outcomes for internship/apprenticeship
  • Administers and interprets career assessment instruments
  • Designs and implements comprehensive career services programs for students/apprentices
  • Develops and facilitates workshops related to career exploration, employability skills, hiring events, internships, on the job training (OJT), career panels and apprenticeships
  • Participates in scheduled training activities and workshops
  • Maintains accurate records on placements, participating employer agreements, on-the-job training, and produces progress reports to recommend actions as needed
  • Develops tools for measuring departmental activity and success, and participates in continuous improvement initiatives to promote retention and educational continuity
  • Works with MDC WORKS/CTE apprenticeship team members to identify opportunities in the form of internship/apprenticeships and/or part-time or full-time employment
  • Refers student/apprentice resumes to employers for employment/internship opportunities

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in an appropriate related field and three (3) years of experience in recruiting, human resources, career advising and any related experience in industry or higher education
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of academic advising and career development principles and practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with the student information system
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with academic departments, faculty, staff, students/apprentices, and the local community
  • Effective communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective public relations
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments
